The results are in and it’s unanimous Rd is officially Alexandra’s best street.
Keep Alexandra Beautiful held the annual Alexandra Best Street and Cul De Sac competition recently, with judges making the final determination last week.
Organiser and judge Allan Johnston said although it was named as a road, Old Golf Course Rd’s “immaculate appearance” was too good for it not to take out the top honour.
“The vast areas the residents have maintained were too impressive to not have awarded it the best street prize,” he said.
Quail Close in Alexandra was considered by the judges as the best cul de sac, with its overall appearance “clean, tidy and almost without fault”.
Originally a joint effort between the Horticultural Society and Keep Alexandra Beautiful beginning in the mid-1990s, the competition was revived two years ago, Mr Johnston said.
“We used to do Clyde as well but now we just focus on Alexandra.”
And what do the winning street residents get as their reward?
“Honour and glory,” Mr Johnston said.
“People are quite chuffed,” he said.
