Central Otago is taking centre stage in the skies.

The region features on the cover of the September issue of Air New Zealand’s Kia Oramagazine.

The cover image was captured by former Dunstan High School pupil and visual content creator Will Nelson.

The 20-year-old, who is currently in his second year of a bachelor of creative media production in Wellington, regularly captures visual content for Tourism Central Otago to promote the region.

Growing up in Central Otago, Mr Nelson regularly captured his passion for the outdoors through the lens.

He was excited to have his work recognised, Mr Nelson said.

“I guess it was pretty cool to have the opportunity, but even more so to grow in my skill it’s an awesome place where the landscape and the people make it so special,” he said.

Tourism Central Otago general manager Dylan Rushbrook said the organisation was “absolutely stoked” to see Mr Nelson’s work on the magazine cover.

“For such a young man, he has an incredible skill and eye for capturing what make this place special,” Mr Rushbrook said.

It was believed to be the first time Central Otago had featured on the magazine’s cover, he said.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, Air New Zealand would not be supplying the in-flight magazine to essential workers travelling. However, copies were being sent to Gold and Gold Elite members.
