Every day the RSA helps current and former service personnel and their families.

Myth: The RSA only helps those who have served overseas.

Reality: The RSA supports all those impacted by military service for New Zealand.

RSA supports current serving New Zealand Defence Force personnel, those who have transitioned out of the military and their families.

Myth: There are fewer veterans now and the need is less.

Reality: The need is greater than ever.

An estimated 100,000 men and women have served since the end of World War 2.

Of these 41,000 veterans to have served on recognised operational deployments, three-quarters of them are since the end of the Vietnam War.

Myth: Only the service person can contact RSA support services for assistance.

Reality: Call it pride or embarrassment, but many of those in need of support simply don’t contact us.

As a family member or friend, you are often the first to notice that someone needs help.

Depending on your relationship with the individual and what they’re going through, your support could range from a small act of kindness to contacting support services.

We are happy to follow up referrals and requests from friends and family.

Myth: You have to join the RSA to get support.

Reality: We welcome any new member, but you do not have to be an RSA member to get support and assistance from us.

If you’re a current or ex-serviceman or woman and you need a hand, we are here for you and those who support and depend on you.

There is no fee for our service and you don’t have to have served overseas to get assistance from us.

If you or someone you know needs assistance, help is available.
