millers Flat School pupils have been bagging sheep manure to raise money to upgrade the school’s tennis courts.
School PTA co-president Sarah Macdougall said the 15kg-20kg bags of manure were ideal for gardens.
‘‘The project is expected to cost about $70,000 to $80,000.
‘‘We are short of funds this year with Covid-19 cancelling our annual seven-a-side tournament and our motorbike trail ride.’’
The school needs to have enough money raised by December to ensure the project goes ahead, as funding from the Ministry of Education has to be used by the end of the calendar year or it will ‘‘expire’’.
It has applied for grants and the board of trustees has said it will contribute to the project.
‘‘The PTA will provide the shortfall.’’
The bags can be picked up from outside the school for $6 a bag or $20 for four.
