The scenery of the Central Otago and Queenstown Lakes districts has a majestic presence in many of the wedding and elopement images captured by husband and wife photographers Bruno and Charlotte Cretney.

Based in Wanaka and working as Charlotte Kiri Photography, the duo has been chosen as part of 2021’s Top 30 Rising Stars of Wedding Photography by Rangefinder magazine.

The contest organisers said the annual awards showcased a group of emerging photographers who exhibited promising talent, artistic prowess, a unique voice and creative direction in wedding photography.

Other winners were based in such places as Vietnam, Ireland, Malaysia, Finland, as well as across the United States.

“This award is as big as they come in the wedding photography industry. We put our heart and soul into every wedding we photograph, so to win this award is really a highlight of our career,” Mrs Cretney said.

snowboarder who met her husband at the Wanaka Skate Park, Mrs Cretney said the couple chose the photos for their entry portfolio “to showcase the amazing mountains of our area”.

Also, as a former journalist, she said telling a story in photography was very important to her.

“I feel I still get to be a journalist but with a camera rather than with words.”
