A memorial wall has been established at Wanaka Airport to commemorate those who have left a legacy in the aviation community.
The decision to construct a memorial wall began when Ralph Fegan, former operations manager and current contracting groundsman, noticed plaques randomly situated around the airport.

Mr Fegan said he gathered up the plaques and brought them together.
“I gradually found out who these folk were and their backgrounds. I thought it’s a pity not to have them all in one place and tell their story,” he said.

Consulting with others the memorial wall has been built as a place for present and future plaques.
The original construction of the wall was paid for by Queenstown Airport Corporation and constructed by Deane Weastall.
Future plans include creating a weatherproof book highlighting the stories of the plaque members.
Anyone wanting to contribute stories or information about the people who have shaped the Wanaka aviation community, have been encouraged to contact Ralph Fegan at the Wanaka Airport.
