Applications are open for a share of $120,000 in grants from the Queenstown Lakes District Council Waste Minimisation Community Fund.

The fund was established in 2018 and supports initiatives to reduce and divert waste from landfill.

Up to $100,000 is available for community projects and $20,000 for commercial projects.

Last year’s recipients included Naylor Love Central Otago for segregation of recyclable materials at building sites and reusable pallet covers to eliminate single-use plastics, and the Wanaka Community Workshop for tools for reuse and repair projects.

QLDC waste minimisation project officer Kath Buttar said the council was looking for projects with clear, measurable outcomes of tangible benefit to the community.

Application forms are on and close on April 29.
