Aspiring Gymsports (AGS) has received a grant of $5000 from New Zealand Community Trust towards equipment upgrades.

The gym raised close to $42,000 in 2021 for the purchase of equipment including a competition grade Euro-trampoline, parallel bars, fitted mats and a beat board.

The equipment and new lead coaches Ranan and Emily Feit, plus new rhythmic gymnastics coach, Charlotte Gardiner, allowed it to expand programmes, growing the membership by 43 to 243 affiliated members and 200 casual members in January.

In July, AGS expects to move to a 750sqm venue, establishing a gymnasium within the new Youth, Sports & Community Centre on Reece Cres, Wanaka.

Head coach Rae Paterson said they were excited about the move.

“Wanaka’s youth is growing rapidly and there are limited activities available for those who aren’t into traditional outdoor competitive sports.”

The gym also recently installed safer, more accessible mats with the help of Sports Central.
