Vespas are proving their worth on South Island roads.
A convoy of nine friends are riding Vespas, an Italian-made brand of scooter, the length of the country to help raise funds for the Far North Hospice.
Their efforts have so far raised at least $2000, thanks to the sale of one of the Vespas late last week.
The group, which stopped in Alexandra for a night recently, includes a member who is receiving treatment for pancreatic cancer.
It was March last year when the group of friends started planning their Vesparado’s tour, with the aim of attending the Burt Munro Challenge.
The group set off from Cape Reinga on January 25. They arrived in Central Otago on February 6 and were back on the road on Tuesday, destined for the Burt Munro Challenge, in Invercargill.
They ventured along as many back roads as possible during the journey, armed with a collection bucket to take donations big and small.
Group member Julie Hayes said they had yet to confirm how much money they had raised in total.
