Community-led mental wellbeing initiatives in the Southern Lakes region can apply to a new Connecting Communities fund for grants of up to $1000.

The fund has been established by Te Hau Toka Southern Lakes Wellbeing Group, which is responding to Covid-19 uncertainty and stress and encouraging people to connect and have some fun.

Recipients of the first funding round will be announced soon and two more rounds are scheduled for February 28-March 11 and July 4-15.

Te Hau Toka is also hosting a range of workshops and other activities, including a free course called Mental Health 101.

Topics include stress and wellbeing, mental health challenges, suicide, trauma, supportive language and perspective, building a connection, sharing your concerns, and when to get help and local support.

The courses run from 9am to 4.30pm on Thursday, January 27, at The Gate, Cromwell; Monday, January 31, at the Distinction Luxmore, Te Anau; and Tuesday, February 1, at the Heritage Hotel, Queenstown.
