‘‘Loving Our Kids on Purpose’’ was developed by parenting advocate and pastor Danny Silk, of California, and the six-week programme would offer ideas and tools based on Christian values, Alexandra Elim Church pastor Aaron More said.
The Elim church was excited about bringing the programme to Alexandra, and encouraged parents to come along, Mr More said.
‘‘Children don’t come with an instruction manual and often we can feel powerless and unsure of what to do in certain situations. Loving our kids on purpose has been a huge help to us as parents, giving us a consistent strategy and encouraging us to focus on the most important things.’’
The course focused on ‘‘prioritising your connection with your children and teaching them to learn self-control’’, Mr More said.
‘‘We believe it will be a great tool for parents of Alexandra — it certainly has been for us! Danny’s passion centres around helping people build, strengthen and heal their vital relationships in life.’’
Free child care and children’s dinner will be provided during the course, which will run at the Elim Church inTarbert St from 5pm-6pm every Sunday for six weeks from August 14.
The Alexandra church had recently renovated an area to form a new children’s area, and planned to have children’s and after-school activities there soon, Mr More said. – Registrations for the parenting course are essential.
