Duck-shooting fever took over Central Otago over the weekend as the season started.
Otago Fish and Game rangers were very happy with the “excellent compliance observed”.
In the Ida Valley, 39 hunters were checked at 13 ponds, Otago Fish and Game ranger Paul van Klink said.
“Most birds shot were mallards, a few paradise shelducks and a sprinkling of NZ shoveler,” he said.
Excellent compliance was observed; only one incident required further investigation, Mr van Klink said.
