Couple want to say thanks

Dunedin couple Brian and Judith Walker want to thank a mystery woman who paid for Mrs Walker’s items at The Warehouse Alexandra on Monday.

Mr Walker said he dropped his wife off at the store in the morning while he went to run other errands.

It was only a little a later, when he received a phone call from a woman who knew his wife, that he became aware his wife had left her purse at the couple’s Alexandra house. His wife has memory lapses, he said.

By the time he returned to the store however, the problem had been solved after a woman in the checkout queue intervened and paid the full $109 cost and promptly left.

“The woman refused to leave her name, phone, or address so we could reimburse her,” Mr Walker said.

This was despite pleas from his wife, other customers, and staff, he said.

The semi-retired couple, who come to Alexandra at weekends, simply wanted the opportunity to thank and pay the woman back.

“It’s $109, it’s not a trivial sum.”
