A Central Otago Clutha Trails representative is confident the group will meet its new target for funding, despite a jump in the number of surveys required.

Central Otago Clutha Trails director Barrie Wills said the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment had initially required 100 surveys be completed by people who use the Roxburgh Gorge Trail, but in recent weeks has increased that to 200.

The group was struggling to meet the lower target, but with the help of a woman who has volunteered her time to encourage more people to complete the survey, that new target was achievable, he said.

He said the woman would spend time near the track at lunchtimes “intercepting” people to ask if they would do the survey.

“I think we will be comfortable.”

He said there was still plenty of time to reach the target.
