Summer will soon be celebrated in Cromwell in true Kiwi style thanks to the establishment of a community barbecue.
Cromwell Lions Club members, in conjunction with Old Cromwell Inc., have been working on the “legacy” project over recent weeks.
The facility, to be available to both residents and visitors to the area, commemorates the Lions Club’s international centenary, marked this year, and the Cromwell Lions Club’s 50th anniversary, which will take place next year.
Cromwell Lions Club project convener Greg Wilkinson said the barbecue, which was in keeping with the Cromwell Heritage Precinct, would be a legacy and an asset to the community.
“It will be free for everybody to use.”
It will feature a pergola, which was once in the Cromwell Mall, and corrugated iron to provide shelter.
Mr Wilkinson said, all going to plan, the gas-fired barbecue would be ready for its first sausage sizzle in time for Labour Weekend.
