A multistorey building is on the drawing board for Cromwell.
The Gate is behind the proposed development and it will be built in Barry Ave, next to Super Liquor and Harvest Hotel, if it goes ahead.
The Gate general manager Glen Christiansen said the project was at the concept stage, and expressions of interest by businesses wanting to explore the opportunity of being based in the facility were welcome.
“We are quite excited about how it will flow into the town centre and the mall.”
The north-facing retail and office space would be visible at the main entry point into Cromwell and would have easy access and plenty of parking.
It would be suitable for retail, commercial or office use and tenants who expressed an interest early would have an opportunity to provide input into the development.
Office and retail spaces would range from 100sq m to 490sq m and would include options for additional car parking and common areas, including kitchenettes, shared meeting spaces, toilets, a lift and lobby.
Mr Christiansen said the build was expected to start in late 2021 or early 2022.
“It’s been talked about on and off over the years and it’s just waiting for the time to be right.”
That timing was spot-on pre-Covid-19 and those behind the project were still confident it was still a good time to get the wheels in motion, he said.
“It’s quite exciting. People are very interested.”
