Wanaka locals have raised $105,000 for girls in Kenya. So They Can chief executive and founder, Cassandra Treadwell, of Wanaka, said the first dinner the charity had organised in Wanaka “exceeded all expectations”. The dinner held recently at The Venue raised funds for Nginyang Girls’ Secondary School in Kenya, which was a refugee school for girls who were fleeing child bride sales and female genital mutilation, she said. “It was an incredible night and fundraising result. “Our main aim was to let people know about the work we are doing in Africa, empowering children through education, and to ensure all of our 100 guests had a great night.”
