A new take on the nursery rhyme “Mary had a little lamb” is unfolding in Omakau after a tabby cat followed some children to school.
A spokeswoman said the cat appeared on Friday and a kitten, about three to four months old, has also since appeared.
“They both appear well looked-after and in great condition and love the attention from the school children.”
Among the children caring for the cat are Lily Finlay, (left) (9), and Alexis Henderson (8).
Due to the friendly nature of the cat, staff believe it – and possibly the kitten – is someone’s beloved pet.
