Plans for a retirement village in Alexandra have been altered to focus solely on a Central Otago District Council-owned piece of land, backers of the project have announced.
Leaning Rock Village Inc (LRV) chairman Russell Checketts said LRV members had recently approved the move and were now seeking continued council and Vincent Community Board support.
The amended proposal would mean building about 100 units on a 4.2ha piece of freehold council land along State Highway 8, near the Alexandra Golf Course.
Hopes to also secure a piece of Crown land adjacent to the council land had been put on the backburner because of the time it was taking to secure it, Mr Checketts said.
The Vincent Community Board had agreed six times in the past five years to delay any further development interests in the council land while LRV was still in negotiations for the Crown land.
would continue to support the proposal and make the council land available for the retirement village as soon as possible.
