The Vincent Community Board has decided the Alexandra District Museum should receive a one-off grant for the rest of this financial year, as well as a grant next year, totalling just over $108,000.

After listening to submissions from museum spokesman Malcolm Macpherson, the board unanimously decided it would approve $82,000 from the next annual plan budget beginning on July 1, with the balance retrospectively coming from this financial year’s budget.

The funding takes the museum through to the 2023 annual plan round.

The retrospective grant was unusual but occurred because the impacts of Covid and staff changes in both organisations meant the museum made a late funding application.

“This is a major community asset,” Mr Macpherson told the board.

“It survives or it doesn’t on the size of your grant.”
