More than 100 people attended the celebration of Beaumont, at the district’s hall, last Saturday.
Convener Margaret Healy, of Beaumont, said the event was the fourth they had held and was designed to generate memories of the district for future preservation.
“We had 115 come to this one,” she said.
She said as many of the residents who used to live, or continued to live in the township, were in their 80s and 90s, they felt it was important to hold another get-together.
“We are trying to record memories of Beaumont,” she said.
They hoped to eventually compile the memories as well as old photos and other records into a book and would like to hear from anyone who had anything to contribute.
She said they also raised $600 to go towards a war plaque in memory of those who had served from the area.
Mrs Healy is also keen to find a memorial board that used to be part of the district’s Presbyterian Church. It was taken to Lawrence but has since disappeared.
