A mural by Alexandra pupil Jasmine Jarvis (14) is one of ten national winners in the Keep New Zealand Beautiful Resene Wall Worthy competition.

Keep New Zealand Beautiful chief executive Heather Saunderson said the Paint New Zealand Beautiful programme engaged with pupils, communities and artists ‘‘to paint their little piece of New Zealand beautiful’’.

‘‘We were so impressed with all the submissions made for this year’s Resene Wall Worthy Competition and were inundated with votes for the top 10 winners.’’

Teacher Kellie Mackey said Jasmine’s mural was submitted to the Paint New Zealand Beautiful programme the year before and it didn’t get through, but she was contacted again this year and asked to re-enter Jasmine’s design , and this time it was accepted.

Jasmine had moved on to Dunstan High School, but she continued to work on the mural at Mrs Mackey’s garage, spending weekends and school holidays on the panels.

Mrs Mackey said Jasmine was very good at art and design and was quiet and peaceful when working on the mural.

The mural showed the Alexandra bridge from the top of the hill at the entrance to town, Jasmine said.

She was please that although she had moved on from the Terrace School, her mural would remain as a reminder of her time there.best Running shoesnike lunar janoski black and gold swoosh blue
