New chapters will be written when storytellers gather in Central Otago this weekend.
People from as far away as the North Island are registered for the Under Rough Ridge Writer’s Retreat, taking place in Oturehua.
The event, which is in its second year, runs from September 27 to October 4.
Event co-ordinator Mike Riddell said a range of new aspects would be incorporated this time around, including the number of people who could register and the length of the retreat.
Last year’s inaugural event, had 50 participants and took place over a weekend.
This time the event was limited to 20 registrations, and was now full. The retreat would last a week.
Mr Riddell said the idea was that people who were working on a major longform writing project would use the event to take things to the next level.
The retreat will feature a range of tutors, including literary professionals Brian Turner, Jillian Sullivan, Rosemary Riddell, Paula Wagemaker, Bridget Auchmuty and Mr Riddell.
Mr Riddell said he was looking forward to evening discussions with other writers where they could talk about what was important to them.
‘‘Writing is a lonely job most of the time so it’s great to get together with other writers and talk about what’s interesting to them.’’
