Thousands flock to Wanaka show

Despite a downpour on Thursday night, organisers of the 82nd Wanaka A&P Show had a fine Friday and Saturday for the event, which attracted about 40,000 people.Wanaka A&P Show event manager Jane Stalker said the show was the largest two-day show in the South Island and many people made it a fixture on their events calendar, whether they came for the agriculture or the entertainment.There were 465 trade exhibitors, which was on a par with previous years.Stock and home industries competitions proved popular, as did the shearing, wood chopping, and equestrian events.There were dog trials, as well as quite a few food carts and lots of rides.Erewhon Station’s team of Clydesdale horses attracted a lot of attention from the public, as did the classic cars and old steam engines on display.
