Rookie comedians are putting their best jokes forward tomorrow night for the inaugural Clyde heat of the Raw Comedy Quest.

New Zealand’s largest open mic competition, the Raw Comedy Quest has been the launching pad for some of the country’s biggest names in comedy for more than 20 years.

The comedy rite of passage has grown in the South in the past five years, the Clyde heat a first for Central Otago.

Finalists will go on to compete in the Southern Lakes semifinal in Queenstown next month.

Former Otago finalist and Remarkably Funny comedian Megan Cartwright said the competition was the “perfect opportunity for first-time comedians to get involved as it’s only open to amateurs so it’s a level playing field, and entrants only need a 5-minute set”.

The Clyde heat starts at 8.30pm tomorrow night at Oliver’s Restaurant and Bar.

Doors open at 8pm and tickets are $10 from Trybooking.
