A Central Otago primary school writers festival has been so successful it will hopefully be held again, pupils and teachers say.

More than 120 year 7 and 8 pupils from primary schools in Alexandra, Clyde, Omakau and Poolburn took part in the festival, which was organised by pupils and teachers from Alexandra Primary School.

More than 80 of those pupils then took part in two days of festival workshops at Alexandra’s Central Stories Museum and Art Gallery last week.

The workshops included sessions on editing, comic writing, creative writing and scriptwriting, and also featured a short story competition.

The competition, organised and judged by Alexandra Primary School pupils Skyla McLeod, Claudia Park, Kyra Fowler, Brylee Hazlett and Sadie Kimmey, attracted about 50 entries and considerable interest, the pupils said.

Alexandra Primary School teacher Fiona Mackley said there had been “amazing” feedback from pupils about the festival.

It was thought the pupil-led nature of the event had contributed to that, and it was hoped the festival would be held again.latest RunningAir Jordan
