A magical journey planned for the Lake Hawea Community Centre has been a year in the making.
Local residents Barbara McKenzie and Elizabeth Horrell were helped by Dave Wardell, Liz Munn and Dick Cotter to create this year’s Hawea Reindeer Christmas Village.
The theme this year highlighted Santa’s reindeer, with displays along the way including Dasher’s Den, ‘‘which is very elegant’’, Vixen’s AirBnB and a cafe decorated in black and white called Blitzen’s Brasserie.
Recycled items were used for some parts of the display, including Cupid’s Craft Cottage created from takeaway food boxes, and snowmen made from tyres.
There were also some interactive elements for children, she said.
There was even a miniature train set including a representation of Hawea — ‘‘our village’’.
Ms McKenzie said planning began not long after last year’s display, and they were already thinking about what they would do next year.
