A local artist is launching a series of art lessons that will enable people to access online learning at home.
Cromwell artist Joanne Deaker had been teaching art in her home for about six years, but feels inspired to offer online courses because that way she can reach people in isolated areas.
“About six years ago I started teaching physical classes, and from that I felt that I wanted to be able to get out and have a wider reach.”
The online courses comprise seven classes, with a new lesson and a Facebook live discussion each week.
Pupils could email photos of their work to Ms Deaker for assessment and advice.
The courses included instructional videos, written instructions with pictures and support from classmates on a private Facebook group, Ms Deaker said.
Ms Deaker painted on canvas and etched plexiglass, creating prints of her work.
“I have a general theme across everything that I do, in that I believe images are powerful.
“I’m finding that through teaching I can help other people share in that same process, and help people learn the joy of creating artwork.”
Bookings are now open and classes are due to start in late July.
