Hidden caverns under the ground captured the imagination of viewers at the recent 2019 Arts Gold Awards exhibition at Central Stories Museum and Art Gallery.
Chirag Jindal, of Auckland, won the Tall Poppy Real Estate Viewers’ Choice Award for his latex print over a lightbox titled No 9 Ambury Road.
Viewers’ Choice runner-up was Nigel Wilson, of Alexandra, with his oil on canvas work The Nevis.
A life-sized bust with the head of a sheep but the face and torso of a young woman made from bone, flax fibre and paper was third in the Viewers’ Choice category. Created by Dunedin artist Bruce Mahalski, Oves Dei – Sheep Goddess is made from thousands of rabbit bones sourced from Central Otago.
